Devi Prasad, who was taught painting by masters including Nandalal Bose, died in the Capital on Wednesday night after a prolonged illness, reports PTI quoting his family. He was 89.
Mr. Prasad, who was taught painting by Mr. Bose, Benode Bihari Mukherjee and Ram Kinkar at Santiniketan, breathed his last at his Chittaranjan Park residence.
Born in Dehra Dun in 1921, Devi Prasad joined Mahatma Gandhi’s Sevagram after his graduation from Santiniketan. He stayed in Sevagram till 1962 where he developed an art school and edited a journal.
He was awarded the Lalit Kala Ratna award by Lalit Kala Akademi in 2007.
He has published over 200 books and several articles on peace studies, child art and education and Tagore and Gandhi.
