18 millitants killed in US drone attacks

At least 18 suspected militants were killed in three US drone attacks in South and North Waziristan on Wednesday.

Four missiles hit a vehicle carrying suspected militants from Razmak Road to Tappi area, about 10km east of Miramshah, the headquarters of the North Waziristan Agency.

Eight people were killed and the vehicle was destroyed. The bodies were mutilated beyond recognition, the Dawn reports.

The US has been carrying out unmanned drone strikes are carried out on what it calls “high value targets” in Pakistan, but the Central Intelligence Agency has never officially acknowledged the existence of such a programme.

US officials have defended the strikes as a vital tool in combating terrorism, but, critics point out that the bombings have caused massive civilian losses.
