TN: Jayalalithaa scraps DMK's free colour TV scheme


Jayalalithaa has scrapped the free colour TV scheme initiated by the Karunanidhi led-DMK.

After scrapping several top projects initiated by the erstwhile DMK regime, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has now junked one of DMK's favourite poll sops.

The state government has decided to scrap the free colour TV scheme initiated by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The free colour TV scheme had brought in huge dividends for the DMK in the 2006 assembly polls.

But television sets lying with the government will now be distributed to schools, orphanages and primary health centres. Ater assuming power, Jayalaithaa had scrapped the Rs 1200-crore secretariat project.
