Strike halts output at Maruti's Manesar plant
MUMBAI: India's top car maker, Maruti Suzuki is facing a disruption in production at its plant in the northern state of Haryana after a section of workers went on strike on Saturday, a spokesman for the company said.
Around 800 workers went on strike demanding the recognition of a new union, Maruti Suzuki Employees Union, the spokesman said, resulting in a production loss of about 650 units on Saturday.
Maruti, 54.2% owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp , produces about 1200 vehicles a day from the Manesar plant.
At present, the company has one workers' union that is recognized by he management -- Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union.
Shares of the company fell as much as 1.9% on Monday to Rs 1,210 in a weak Mumbai market.
